HIGHLIGHTS and THE PROCESS of RADIO     PERSONALITY and SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER, KRIS KAYLIN BENNET!!!!!!

       Being a loyal daughter to South Carolina State University from 2012 to 2016, Kris Kaylin Bennet has branched off and stole the mass media industry. Kris started off majoring in Business Marketing Management, however as time progressed her inspirations from MTV hit show Girl/Guy code lead her to the communications field.  

      From there she lead the idea to start a web series called  "Bulldog Bite". She produced this content to enhance the social network for her name and her school. She felt like this would be a great opportunity to get students involved with being open about student life. 

      Aside from "Bulldog Bite", Bennet was very involved on campus with different organization groups. She served as a member of CAB, Royal Court, and SGA. Not to mention she is also apart of the Alumni Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.  

    There was a scheduled virtual Zoom call with Kris Kaylin Bennet. This granted the privilege of getting some insight on life now after graduation and the new position as a Social Media Influencer. 

   Due to her well eventful path throughout school she is now a weekend radio host at Z93 Jams; located in Charleston, South Carolina. There bennet discusses music life, social media gossip and more.

"I definitely like radio the most because I actually get to be my full self…..Radio incorporates everything that I do, from recording to social media, and public speaking."

Kris Bennet most recently became the Creative Director of Black Southern Belle. With this position, she is obligated to create the content for their site. From the flyer, video promotions, and uploading onto social media; Ms. Bennet does it all. 

Working in this position, has lead to Bennet discovering new connections and signing deals. Prior to this interview, she agreed to the deal of creating content for a few PR companies that have reached out to Black Southern Belle.

 Bennet does express that she can see herself with a brand of her own someday. Yet, with the experience of working with Black Southern Belle, she is marked to seek grants and funding to build her branding foundation .

   "I think eventually I'm going to be able to verge out and create my own brand for it, so, ABSOUTLEY". 

Being in the field for just about 5 years, she has been blessed with opportunities of interviewing celebrities' such as; Kanye West, Brandy, and Trey Songz. Not only that, but she was most recently listed upon a prominent group of Alumni.

 This group is based upon the many students who have graduated and surfaces a successful reputation in their field.  Kris Kaylin is yet another former student who has made SC State proud. 

However, Kris shared that it was pretty tough getting in the field. Following behind that the expression of getting yourself out there and drawing your self- image was mentioned. 

"Once you get your foot in the door, you have to kill it...…It's a small circle. Once you get in the industry, you will realize how small the circle is ".

In order to gradually be as successful, Kris believes that building a professional relationship with your professors is the key to finding guidance. She does mention how much of a help Professor Patrick Harwood (the call host) has brought to her success. Ms. Bennet hopes that her accomplishments are to be a motive to those who are interested in communications or have doubt to take risk.

 What Are Ways You Can Shut Up Haters!

WHAT IS GOING ON GUYS!! So a lot of people are dealing with the obsessive crowds that do not know how to praise somebody on his or her accomplishments. The world is sick in its own way and this brings doubt into those with high talents. Today, I'm going to give you a few pointers with descriptions that will help you succeed to shut up your haters. 

Step 1 Focus on making a plan 

If you want to be the bigger person make sure you have a plan of what you want in life. First you need to ask yourself what exactly do I want to accomplish. Day after day someone is put down of a job , gig, or what ever you want to call it because they really did not have a plan. Your plan needs to include the following: 

- What is your career goal?

- Do you keep up with the updates of that field?

-  What impact are you planning to make? 

-Are you confident enough to be who you say you are?

- How will you bounce back when turned down? 

These are morals that haters nick pick over when somebody is trying to make it big. It is up to you to prove to yourself that you can do anything you put your mind to. 

Step 2 Start chasing the bag

When the saying "early bird gets the worm" is an actually fact? It must be the top motivator for business motives, trend setters, driven students, because that statement belongs in the hearts of those who do not mind a challenge along the way. 

 Hypothetically  speaking, you as an individual may see yourself as a bump in the road. Well I'm here to clarify that there are different types of bumps in the road. May I proceed? Nope, I think you see where I'm headed.  Every bump in the road has a purpose; either to make damage or safe travel. Pick one wisely, ok? 

DO NOT doubt yourself when in the process of going after something you want. 

 

Chasing the bag is not just about making money, but about find yourself and sustaining growth. This leads to the next step. 

Step 3 Growth 

Now personally speaking, growth is a motive that masters the strength of all mankind. Haters hate growth, depending how well the growth is. No one can really hate if you have made a complete 360. 

 Finding your true intermission is very important. Ways it may be important, check this out:

1. Boost your mental health.

2. Strengthens brain operations.

3. Lowers stress levels/anxiety.                                               

4. Plants a new seed in clear future. 

Do not feel that because something bad went wrong, that it is time to stop pushing. That is your push. Haters and backstabbers wants nothing more than to see you fail and find themselves wanting all good to benefit them. 

You must do a self-evaluation to see the potential other are jealous of. 

Step 4  Do not discuss next move

Those who doubt you will not be sad when you fall. If you are planning something, never tell your plans. Geniuses never just rat out what is to come, but instead work and surprise bystanders with a masterpiece. 

Sometimes it is ok to be to yourself. Honestly that is the best way to handle those who despise you.  When it is time to think and plot your next move do it in a way that is very discrete. No one should know the underground working of the final production. Take that time to simplify things accordantly.

 Step 5 Take your time

This is the last step for the simple reason that you can not rush you process. It can probably take years to get to where you need to be. Yet, when you take your time it will really pay off as something bigger in the end. Everyone has a pace he or she may follow. What is your pace?

Try to reason with yourself sometimes; it works. Give all that you have and know that your passion will carry on your dream. Go steady and not to fast. This will lead you into giving up and failing. Failure will happen, but your self worth and style will never fail you.

EVERYONE WELCOME, JALEN TART!!!!

Born May 26th, 1999, Florence, South Carolina. Jalen Tart was brought into a home with a mother, father , and a older brother, Jordan Tart. He is currently a senior at South Carolina State University; studying broadcasting. His biggest influential resources would have to be his mother and father. Without them and their guidance; he would not have made it this far.

    "My mom is very strong, independent, and funny. Where as my father is more relaxed and wise, I can always seek advice from him", Jalen explains.

In middle school Jalen was in the band and went into marching band.  He states that it made him feel good being surrounding by those who love the same activity as him. After graduating high school, Tart joined the South Carolina State " Marching 101" band. He played trumpet for 2 years before focusing more on his studies. Aside from music, Tart takes a huge interest in sports. In the future, he sees himself with ESPN; positioning as a sports broadcaster. Jalen understands the way of making it to his goal; he must have motivation and aspiration.  What is it that he wants to the be the foundation of his new life? 

"Perform at the highest level at everything I do", Tart states.

Jalen explains that whatever he is assigned to do; he will do it to perfection if close to it. He mentions that he wants people to know that he will do his best to provide what is needed of him. As of right now, his set aspirations would be to graduate, proceed into graduate school for his masters, and seeking in God. 

Understanding that adult hood if right around the corner, it's time to find out what his unwinding time is consist of. 

"I would do some outdoor meditation, but I love to sleep, that's my best hobby. Oh! and I work too; at the Texas Road house and Keke's chicken and waffles" . 

During tough times such as the Coronavirus pandemic; which Jalen says was frustrating. Tart was able to work up skills and acting upon them. Even though there are a ton of skills Tart has, he says being strong minded on things skillfully, will lead him in a strong future. He makes it clear that he does work being wise and strongly minded when talking about sports. This is great for his sports show that he broadcast.

Jalen Tart explains that his show dissects the sports industry from games, drafts, numbers in the league, etc. The sports industry is very messy and have a lot to it than what is shown. So, why not be informed on some inside news. Jalen Tart will continue to pursue his career goal with ESPN while focusing in his studies and accomplishments. Tart, one day wants to leave a mark for future college student, and broadcasters. Most importantly, he wants to be an influence to others.

 Things NOT to Say During a Job Interview

Everyday someone is called in by a company he or she has shown interest in. The interviewee is more than likely a nervous wreck, depending on how long the wait was for the interview. When anxiety levels are high certain standard go out of the window. The most important accomplishment at the moment is getting the job! Here are 5 Tip of things not to say during an interview. 

Expert Author, Don  Georgevich, gave a few pointer on particular techniques in a job interview. lets began.

1-Do not mention anything bad about previous or current job. 

This is a dead give away that you seem to be very messy in terms of spreading rumors. No company wants their in employees to start unnecessary drama in the business world. By you saying you never liked your job makes the other company look bad even though you were the one being affected. 

Another issue with complain to the interviewer about previous work, lets them know if you were to stop working with them, then it is common for you to talk bad about then to the next job in line. So, try to avoid bashing you previous or current occupation.

2- Do not be too desperate

DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS. By showing how much you need the job or a job in general will result into you running errands for little pay. Georgevich explains that as the interviewee, your job is to tell the company what you want to do. 

This gives yourself confidence and that will place you in better position than where you may start. Also the interviewer will take you more seriously in hopes to make you business partners with other companies. instead of staying " I will do anything, what do you have for me" try  " I'm interested in this certain position" and if they can not seem to offer that to you it is best to just leave or go on with the interview and get back with them later on you decision.  

3- Do not list descriptive words when asked about yourself. 

It is a trick question but not really. Normally, when someone say " Tell me about yourself" you would answer back with a story maybe leaving out minor events until further noticed, do the same thing, but focusing on work abilities. Be more open on the topic of what makes you a good fit for that job. I'm sure the interviewer will see that you are capable of benefiting the company with your working skills. 

4- Do not say you've never knew or heard of a techniques that the company uses. 

This is a dead give away that you have no experience for the applied job. However, it is important to express that you have had similar skills that matches what they are asking for. If you put out that you do not have much experience, there is a chance that the interview will continue, but the accomplish job snatch is out the window. 

5- Do not ask interview what exactly does the company do. 

Honestly what was the point of you applying for that job. You should have an idea as to what the purpose is behind the company. So, to ask such a question is very disrespectful. 

Maybe you do not know exactly how to ask questions about the job well here are some options.

-Does your company provide working benefits?

- What does success look like  in this position?

-Are there opportunities for professional development?

The Struggles of 2020 becomes Normalized.

Everyone was so ready to start this new year and live life for a better purpose. Little did we all know that continuous deaths, a deadly sickness, and injustice protest was going to be taking over all year. I’ve been trying to hold on to the last bit of my black hair as my stress levels from work, school work, and extra activities have made my life a tad bit hectic. 

WHAT HAS BEEN MY BIGGEST TEST SINCE THE PANDEMIC? 

Ever since the Coronavirus outbreak, I find myself  in a static position. I have been delayed on purchasing my first apartment; that I was suppose to be living in by early June. As you all can see it’s well past August and we are pushing through September. I can’t take living in a place that already has very little to do and places to go, to being a town of nothing to do at all. 

Students finding it hard to adapt to online school

The place that I’m working at doesn’t pay as much, but enough to barely get by; is making it very hard to save money. I’ve tried to hold off on buying certain thing like types of food, clothing, yet, I need these thing plus more. 

It like I’m pulling a piece of cotton candy, instead of it pulling apart to make a new piece; it just pops right back to the shape it use to be. I'M NOT GETTING ANYWHERE. 

When it come to school work, I planned to be very engaged and ahead. As of today, I can honestly say that my brain is not as focused. I’m so use to being on campus and being hands on; it’s hard for me to keep that working mindset when working from home. I’m too comfortable. 

On top of that, professors are not following the normal schedules, but expect us to go along like we do not have jobs and things to do just as much as they do. All of the zoom meetings are a waste of time because of technical difficulties and like I’ve said before (about not following the time based on our normal class schedule) the new procedures are conflicting with homework time and work as well. 

Student are shown to lose attention span quicker 

No offense to all teachers, but the phrase “ I’ve got my degree you just need to get yours” is no longer an excuse at this point. Students, especially college students are  trying to get their education, work so they won’t be too much of a burden to parents, all while trying to get a good start in the field they have spent their time and money on; all while in a pandemic. What is funny is that it's making it hard to do so because of “social distancing”. 

Teachers have a their job! Not saying that it’s their dream job, but they have a job that they have experience in. Read between the words if it doesn’t make sense because it will. Yes, some task may not be assigned during these times, but how is it affecting the teachers? It’s not, it’s affecting the students. NO ONE THINKS ABOUT THAT. I could go into more details, it’s just that I want people sit and think about it themselves. 

THE REMAKE OF HISTORY IS REMADE AT THE RIGHT TIME? 

As all may know of the death of George Floyd ;if not I will post a link. Floyd was killed while being arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He left behind close family including his five children. 

I can't breath

The united states went into an uproar over the situation. It was almost as if the black community really had enough and wanted to be heard. America broke out with a mass amount of protest across the map; even international countries were join by protesting. 

In my opinion I was all for the protesting, looting all of that. Not just because of the fact that I’m tired of the racial profiling, but because I have the understanding that the black community has been fight for almost two centuries and change. 

It’s getting old. We didn’t ask to be here, just to be killed of because if our features and skin color. I’m sorry whites are can’t think of themselves so they steal our culture. It really pissed me off we can’t have anything yet we are the one making the country generate.

 If the United States keep killing us then I would love to watch   over and seen how the country will operating. My heart is   heavy for all of the men and women killed by police. It hurts       to know they could not live his or her life like everybody else. 

I'm sick of America! I have my doubts of making it into the the journalistic field because I'm dark skin and not light skin. I've grown up being racially profiled by teachers and co-workers ,but I'm still pushing. People are dying left to right and the American citizen are pushing for justice before there is no more people to fight. I would hate to have my kids be brought into this world knowing this is what it looks like.

Not taking charge of that sort but to actually change the lead of a stories ten different ways. Below I have two news leads, one from an entertainment story and another from a political news story. What I want to show you guys is how many different leads there are and how to write them based on the stories that I picked. 

Headline: "Four Years Later, Trump Still Portrays America as an Under Siege"

1. Hard News Lead

President Trump tracks ways on how America is the problem and will do nothing until the people realizes. 

2. Anecdote Lead

Elected in 2016, Trump made promises to "Make America Great Again" after claiming that former president Barack Obama, has put America in a deep hole. However, the year is now 2020 and the United States are going through a rollercoaster of economic failures, presidential lies, and a deadly sickness. Yet, Trump claims he the only one to end the mishap affairs in America IF elected in November. 

3. Descriptive Lead

A mother who can no longer provide for her children; for she is is with no job. Another citizen dead from infection of the coronavirus. President Trump is not worried when he schedules presidential rallys across the country. Aslo, makes investment with "Goya Beans"

Donald Trump sits high on the president throne watching America cry out in the need of help. Trump refuses to move if the there is no love and support given to him. This may be the end of a free America.

Promises were given that focused on the needs of the United States. Low taxes rate, who would pass up that? It's funny how those promises were never given, but constant death, riots and protests, and racial conflict came in like it was granted an invitation.

 TIC TOC ENHANCES THE DREAMS OF A                           SMALL TOWN GIRL 

          This teenager is going places as she takes on the world of Tic Tok. Jalah Cash was born and raised in the town of Cheraw, South carolina. She says she loves to dance and cheer, however, dancing is her gate way to avoid trouble. Jalah has already had a few dancing gigs at local birthday parties and participated in a variety of school talent showcases. 

Aside from dancing Jalah finds herself loving to cook and go walking with her mother.

 

"I love to spend quality time with my mom and dad, whenever I have the chance to" 

Cash calls herself going dirt bike riding and horseback riding with her dad from time to time. 

Cash hopes that her Tic Tok dancing can improve and someday she will become a professional social media dancer. I've had the chance to speak to some of Cash's friends and family and they all had great thing to say. Check it out :

" Jalah is always trying to teach me some new challenge on Tic Tok. So far I have not gain the muscle strength to do most of the challenges" Steph Cash, Jalah's mother, shared with me her many attempts to keep up with her daughter. 

" Me and my bestie love making and doing challenges on Tic Tok, our favorite is the "Renegade". Jalah's friend, Sha'Mya tells me that her best friend never shared a dull moment; especially investing their time into TicToc.

Little Girls Saves Mother's life With just One Phone Call 

     6 year-old Laura Burke calls police saying that some harm was being brought onto her mother. It has been clarified that the mother has been raped by a neighbor who goes by the name of Andrew Caspinwall. It has been said that the father and husband of the household was not around during the time of the incident; which just leave Mrs. Burke and their daughter, Laura. 

   

   "Somebody's hurting my mommy" laura tells the dispatcher on the other end of the line.

The dispatcher seemed to be very calm with Laura during this call; understanding that she was only 6- years-old.  

    "Your doing a good job, Laura", says the dispatcher. 

   Soon the police were able to locate Mr. Burke and bring him to the scene to propose safety for his daughter and wife.  They did arrive while the call was still in progress. This resulted into them preventing anymore damage towards the mother. However, it appears that towards the end of the emergency call Laura was unresponsive.

     

      "Laura? Hello? Are you there?....", The dispatcher tried to contact her over the phone, but there was no answer. 

      

     Officials say that some harm may have been  done to 6 year-old,Laura, but fail to have an update. 

Police are still investigating for further details. Yet, Caspinwall, 24, is being taken into custody with a bail of 250,00 dollars.

Today, is a demonstration kind of day. Below is a 3 page layout I have created. This lay out is great to use when writing for a magazine, newspaper, or even a blog.

While doing this project, I found out that it is hard to understand exactly what has to go on the front page. I was unsure of exactly how everything was going to come out, but I'm very proud of my work. Hopefully this will help others learn the proper way of making a newspaper layout.

As everyone knows, the new procedures for the COVID-19 are very hard to follow. People are out of work, students are no longer in school. However, each victim is finding ways to adjust to the new lifestyle. 

Student. Arabia Green, is a senior at South Carolina State University, and is a proud native of Charleston. SC. She is also studying journalism. Green was willing to share her thoughts about the Coronavirus outbreak.

                                    Do you feel as if people are not taking this virus seriously? 

“People are not taking it seriously. To be honest I wasn’t taking it seriously”.  

  

It has been broadcasted that the local and national governments are worried that the virus will spread more. This is due to the fact that people are not practicing social distancing. 

 

Green goes on to say “I think it’s mostly young people who are neglecting to truly take precautions because they have that childish mindset that nothing will effect them. So, they go out doing their usual activities without thinking of who they may harm as a result of that”.

In what ways has the Coronavirus effect you?

“ Next fall will be my last semester. So, I was a bit irritated that my second to last was cut so short. It was difficult to just up and pack all my stuff out of nowhere and move out my room after spring break. When initially we were all expecting to return after the break was over. Some friends of mine are graduating and live far distance so we didn’t even get the proper goodbye etc.

She also explained to me that her vacation plan were now canceled and the only thing she has left to hold on to is her upcoming birthday in June. Hopefully the virus clears up by then.

 “Mostly sleeping and eating . Finishing assignments before it’s due and if I get too bored, I would drive to my sisters house in North Charleston”.

Coronavirus

What is the world coming to?

As you all may know there has been a wide mass spread of the Coronavirus here in the United States. So far the carolinas are being hit with this virus pretty hard. Being that I stay in the North Carolina area, the virus has become a hassle to my everyday routine. I have come accustomed to staying in the house all day and die from boredom. Sometimes I would make time to go outside and hang with some friends, but the interaction don't last long.

The only thing I wish would stop would have to be the PANIC SHOPPING. People are going crazy trying to gather food and supplies for their homes. As I roam the streets I Have taken notice that a lot of stores and restaurants have close. 

Aside from all of that, gas prices have went down extremely due to the fact that a lot of people are staying indoors. Me however, I've been going out just about everyday trying to make sure everything is running smoothly now that I'm limited access to different things. 

Another major blow to America, is the lack of social commerce though everyone. Not that it is everybody's intention to be rude or standoffish, but that is the vibe I'm getting from everyone that I have encountered. My social circle still stands the same, however, when it come to interactions I'm sanitizing my hand and wiping down my area every five minutes. 

In relations to my collegiate studies, I must say it is kind of hard to keep up with the assignments for the classes that were not made to be hybrid. I've noticed that there has been a slight drop in my grades. I'm not as alert as I would be if I were to be on campus. I figured that the reason for this would be that I still feel like I'm on spring break still. 

Overall I will have to say with the temporary changes, everything is still accessible and it manageable.

Dr. Crawford was the dean of  Industrial Education during the time South Carolina State University was named "South Carolina State College". during the foundation of his life, Dr. Crawford earned two bachelor degrees. One was in Mechanic Arts and the other in Automotive Engineering. Later he attended the University of Detroit to receive his master degree in administration and supervision. 

After receiving his educational degrees he taught at Savannah State University before working for South Carolina State University college. The old engineering building that is located on the campus of South Carolina State University was named after him after others recognized the good he has done for the school. 

While being involved on campus, he was also involved off campus as well. Aside from being the dean he exceeded in being a member of Board of Trustees at Orangeburg Tech. College, the advisory board for Orangeburg Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center, and more. Dr. Crawford worked in various ways to make improvements for South Carolina State University. 

Wednesday, Feb 26th 

On Wednesday, Feb 26th, at 1pm, former professor, Dr. William Hines Jr. spoke to the students of the communication program about the history of the Harold W. Crawford building. 

"It was mainly for the trades, the skilt... the other mechanics" Hines addresses at the Black History month event. 

 The building that is now use to educate students about broadcast and media was once made for high tech engineering and sculpting. 

Professor Dr. Hines  made some notes that he has met Dr. Crawford himself. He claims that he was not to close to him, but was able to meet him personally. 

"I drink beer and watched football games with him. He was a kind of a reserved individual, a little on the shy side" Hines explained. 

Dr. Hines later explained the struggle for Crawford to get the president's position. He made it known that during the time the former presidents got their position, most of the dean voting was based off of how the runners viewed society. It was hard for Crawford to fight to be president because the board knew during the time African Americans with high leveled jobs we to be targeted. So, they picked Benner Turner. 

Dr. Crawford was never given the opportunity to serve as the president of South Carolina State College.

"So they picked Turner to be President and the rest of them were pushed aside, Crawford remained the Dean". says Professor Hines.

In the New York Times, Sunday paper (February,9th,2020); the story of China and the rising numbers in deaths caused by Coronavirus. Coronavirus is a deadly disease spreading in China due to eating raw and wild animals without the proper washing. This story was and still is a major concern to every individual around the world. This disease has had more deaths than the SARS disease.

 This is because over centuries, people from all countries have moved and migranted. Knowing that there is a deadly disease covering just about all of china, the United States of America is in a uproar. For those who don't know, China is America's biggest vendors and to know that over 900 chinese citizens have died from this; is major.

The story holds a huge affect on those all over the world who may have a connection with china.  This disease may have a major impact on the United States of America. 

The story hits the characteristic of IMPACT because of the connection with the United Stated, which is were we as the people are living.

Since the passing of NBA player, Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna Bryant; fans have been stressing to know the "real " reason of the plane crash. Media representatives have decided to share the plane crash from before it happened and afterwards. 

This story may be the closure that all of Kobe's fans need to feel at ease. 

Yes, the story is still devastating, yet, many are relieved or soon to be relieved after being told what really happened. The story is newsworthy to today's time considering he was a legend in the sports world. It captures the hearts of those who looked up to Kobe and Gianna.

This story would be an example of Human Interest be of the emotional barrier it has on Bryants fans and family.The story was a gateway to bring closure to those in the audience who may have been emotionally affected by Kobe Bryant's death.

Timeliness

The Herald newspaper released a story on February, 16th, 2020. The story took place in Rock Hill, SC. Two student were shot around 11 am that Sunday morning. police have not found the shooters as of today, but are still on the lookout. 

This story is an example of TIMELINESS due to the quickness it was reported so that people around that area can be more careful observing his or her surroundings.

New York Times 

New York Times Newspaper Front

New York Times has a way of making sure that the front page stories are relevant to people's everyday lives; as well has a popular story interest that the people need to hear. Also, in order to fit a good amount of stories, the ones published in smaller sections are the ones that are least trending or relevant.

The Heralds News

The Herald Newspaper Front

The Herald is a newspaper that speaks highly on it's local news. As I analyze it, I've noticed that there are not too many stories being shown. The stories shown on this particular front is speaking in regards to underground stories. 

The Montgomery Advertiser

The Montgomery Advertiser Newspaper Front 

The montgomery Advertisers, focuses on the local community as well, but does not have that many news stories to offer. That may be the case due to the size and population of that area. 


Overall, all three of these newspapers seem to be very organized and worthy of what is going on around the national and local areas. The formats may come off as different, just to save the fact of not using the basic format for every paper, but still is written in a similar style. The columns and separation of these papers is very easy on the eyes of the viewers; including myself.
